Increasing Corporate Investment in Australia

What can the state of New South Wales do to improve its support for investors (and subsequently increase investment) in Sydney and it's other regions?

My role

Project Lead - Strategy, Research and Experience Design

Scoped and ran research and design work, delegating to a design research and a graphic design team. Coordinated with client program and marketing teams. Presented to senior government stakeholders.

Core team included a UX consultant, researcher, marketing strategist and 2 graphic designers.

The client

The state of New South Wales in Australia - The Department of Enterprise, Investment and Trade had recently created an "Invest New South Wales" program to bring back investment to the state.

The work

The state of New South Wales in Australia was losing investment to other Australian states Victoria and Queensland. International companies were setting up their Asia Pacific headquarters in these other cities and Melbourne had topped Sydney with the highest number of startup companies. This work was created to help bring industry back to the state by offering the best services and experiences to companies.

Engaging with these companies to discuss their experiences and needs helped us to redefine what an “investor” was for the state, uncovered multiple customer journeys and inspired new services and solutions for each journey.

The results

  • Received multiple accolades and a standing ovation when presented to department senior leadership
  • Enabled journey-based support with customer-focused experiences
  •  Inspired new partnerships with third party contributors
  •  Commenced an increase in the number of startups over the next 3 years
  •  Brought new global companies to set up in Sydney: Lego invested in its largest global store in Sydney in 2022 and Reddit chose Sydney as its AsiaPac hub in 2023
